It's suddenly joy for Brooke Shields!

After nearly two years of trying, the actress and writer husband Chris Henchy are expecting their very own miracle baby - a little girl, say sources.

And Star has the inside story of how their dream of parenthood finally came true.

"Getting pregnant was not easy," the Suddenly Susan star told a source. "Chris and I had been hoping for a while, just waiting and wondering and trying."

Star Confidential broke the story four months ago that the couple was doing everything possible to make a baby - including in vitro fertilization. With the in vitro process, the man's sperm fertilizes the woman's egg in the lab, which is then implanted in her womb.

Sources close to Brooke, 37, and Chris, 38, have told Star that the treatments were successful and their baby girl is due in late May.

"Brooke tried several forms of aggressive hormone fertility treatments, but it was the in vitro fertilization that finally worked for her and Chris late last summer," a source confides.

Brooke, who just finished filming Rent-a-Husband, has told pals she plans to take time off from her acting career to prepare for the baby's arrival. "This is the best thing that could happen to her marriage," says a pal. "She's been so obsessed with getting pregnant that she's been driving poor Chris nuts!

"They were having a lot of arguments about it, and at one point she told friends that she was afraid her marriage wouldn't survive her obsession to become a mom."

Californian Brooke, who was divorced from first husband Andre Agassi in 1999 and married Henchy two years later, is now shopping for a new home in New York to be closer to mom Teri, who lives in New Jersey.

But others close to the statuesque beauty say her wonderful news couldn't have come at a better time for her beloved father Frank, 61, of Palm Beach, Fla. Her dad, the owner of an upscale home-accessories shop, is battling deadly bone and prostate cancer.

"Brooke longs to see her dad smile as he cradles his first grandchild in his arms," says the insider.

Meanwhile, sources say Brooke is keeping in shape by doing yoga and walking each day - while still eating what she wants.

"Chris tells me every day how beautiful I am," the deliriously happy star says. "He doesn't pay attention to my bulging stomach."

Brooke Shields Melahirkan Anak Perempuan

BROOKE Shields, pada usianya 37 tahun telah melahirkan seorang bayi perempuan. Ia melahirkan di sebuah rumah sakit di Manhattan pada hari Selasa. Putri Shields yang masih belum diberi nama itu, lahir tiga minggu setelah kematian Frank, ayah sang aktris.

Momongan yang dilahirkan Shields merupakan anak pertama dari perkawinannya dengan produser dan penulis naskah film Chris Henchy (39), yang menikah 4 April 2001. Sebelumnya, Shields pernah menikah dengan petenis kondang Andre Agassi yang cerai tahun 1999 dan Shields dan pernah menjadi teman kencan John Kennedy Jr (mendiang), tapi tidak dikarunia anak.

Bagi bintang film "The Blue Langgon" yang bernama lengkap Brooke Christa Shields dan lahir di New York, 31 Mei 1965 itu, lahirnya anak perempuan tidak begitu mengejutkan, karena saat hamil, ia dan Henchy sudah mengetahui jenis kelamin bayi pertama mereka yang memperkirakan lahir Mei 2003.

Selain itu, Shields siap jadi ibu. "Saya siap menjalani perubahan dalam kehidupan yang sesungguhnya," ucapnya saat masih hamil kepada AP Radio dalam sebuah wawancara. "Itu tak menakutkan bagi saya, malah menggairahkan, dan sekarang saya tahu bahwa akan ada begitu banyak hal yang betul-betul saya pelajari dengan cepat," lanjutnya.

Ketika hamil, Shields disibukkan dengan menjadi bintang acara televisi animasi, "Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids", produksi jaringan televisi acara anak-anak "Nickelodeon". Ia mengisi suara tokoh Miss Spider dalam acara televisi ini. (DW/"PR")***
