Foldable/ rollable phone from Motorola
The design of the mobile phones is always a fight between two opposite objectives - portability and usability. The more small and portable the device becomes, the less usable the user interface can be.
You can make the phone screen only that small, until the information displayed on it becomes unreadable. The same goes for the input devices. Make the keyboard small enough, and the user will have a really hard time pressing the correct keys.
Well. Motorola has an interesting idea what to do about that. In a patent application “User Interface System” it describes a concept of mobile phone with rollable display and/or keyboard.
http://www.unwiredview.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/motorola-rollable-phone.jpg
Of course, the idea of flexible/rollable screens and keyboards is nothing new. The are quite a few of these gadgets on the market or at least in late prototype stage. The problem with these devices is that flexible/rollable is by definition not rigid. And using the phone with a keypad or display flapping in the wind, is not such a good idea.
But Motorola has found the way around this little problem, by using a reservoir with electrorheological fluid beneath the foldable display or keypad. This fluid becomes a solid material when electric current is applied to it, and then reverts again to fluid state when the electric current disappears.
The phone with either rollable display or keypad will have all it’s working electronics in a solid part, with an enclosure for the flexible part located here as well. In inactive state the flexible part rests in an enclosure.
Whenever the call comes in, or you want to make one, press a button. Electric current is applied, the display rolls out and springs into a solid state, and you use the device as any other mobile phone. Press the button again, and display folds back-in.
To take it even further, both display and keypad can be made flexible. You just put all the necessary electronics into a solid container, with the enclosures for flexible display and keypad. This way you could make matchbox sized mobile mobile phone, which will be as easy to use as any other clamshell.
Looks like an interesting, if pretty far fetched idea, which probably won’t come to life anytime soon.
However, the patent application for rollable phone was filed on the same day (July 24th, 2006) as the original patent applications for this device:

Which also seemed pretty far fetched at the time, but looks Motorola E8 ROKR today.

Yach intinya "optimistic" aja.
Sekedar informasi saja tentang "Greg Brown" (CEO Motorola)

Bad News.......
Motorola lays off 200+ employees in Schaumburg, Illinois?
On and on we cover bad news coming from Motorola. Actually, this isn't confirmed yet but according to Engadget Mobile's tipster, the American handset maker has laid off more than 200 additional employees recently. Apparently, people working with the customer service, mobile, and lab departments in Moto's home town of Schaumburg, Illinois took the bulk of the hit. Again, we have nothing confirmed, but this is everything but a surprise to everyone who's following the industry. Plus, when a company's in trouble, it's the cost-cutting measures shareholders are always cheering for. Thousands voice anger over Nokia's Germany plans
Tue Jan 22, 2008 12:42pm EST
By Matthias Inverardi
BOCHUM, Germany, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Around 15,000 workers and labour officials took to the streets of Bochum on Tuesday, voicing their anger over the closure of a Nokia plant in the hope of forcing the Finnish company to rethink its plans.
Local and federal politicians as well as the head of Germany's industrial union IG Metall appealed to Nokia to revise its plans, which would put some 2,300 workers out of a job.
"There is no excuse for disgraceful and inhuman behaviour," IG Metall metalworkers union head Berthold Huber said, calling the plans "Wild West capitalism".
Nokia Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung he did not expect to learn anything new that would make it reverse its decision to close the plant, which he said accounts for 6 percent of output but 23 percent of personnel costs.
Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) said last week it would close the plant in the western city of Bochum because it was not competitive and would move production to Romania. The closure drew heavy political criticism ahead of state elections.
Bochum is an economically depressed region that has lost its historic mining and steelmaking industries.
The protests echoed demonstrations that took place three years ago when staff at carmaker Opel, owned by General Motors, successfully stopped the closing of their plant. Nokia is the second biggest employer in the region after Opel.
A Nokia spokesman said the company would seek ways to cushion the blow for staff laid off. "This will include packages for the staff and Nokia is willing to consider other support activities to staff and to the city."
According to a representative of the state government, Nokia had not yet scheduled further talks.
LITTLE HOPE TO SAVE PLANT
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who discussed Nokia's plans and expressed her concern in a call with Kallasvuo on Monday, told a radio interviewer she saw scant chance to save the plant.
"If Nokia's decision cannot be revised -- and signs seem to point in that direction -- everything needs to be done to give those people affected some prospects," she said.
Merkel said she did not think it necessary to abolish subsidies for companies, citing formerly communist eastern German states' ability to lure firms with state support.
Some politicians argue Nokia should repay German subsidies it received in the 1990s, but other officials have noted the company has invested much more than it received.
Germany, the world's biggest goods exporter since 2003, has seen its telecommunications sector hit hard in recent years. In 2006, 3,000 workers lost their jobs when BenQ Mobile (2352.TW: Quote, Profile, Research) declared bankruptcy, a year after it bought Siemens AG's (SIEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) cellphone unit.
Germany, Europe's largest economy, is Nokia's fifth-largest market, with net sales of 2.06 billion euros ($3 billion) in 2006. Some union leaders in Germany have called for a boycott of Nokia goods and senior politicians have joined in the attack. (Editing by Paul Bolding)

Kelihatannya sudah terlalu "Out Of Topic" sejak postingan "Galaktus" dan lucu sekali sekarang bisa lari-larinya ke pembahasan yang kagak suka dengan Motorola.
Orang-orang Indonesia brand minded.
http://www.ponseljakarta.com/iklan/nokia/nokia8800sirocco.htm
http://www.studiohp.com/price_list.php
Apakah semua type Nokia harganya jatuha parah?
Motorola Razr 2 V8 harga baru Rp 3.550.000,- dan secondnya Rp 2.750.000,- berarti kerugiannya sekitar Rp 1.150.000,- s/d Rp 1.350.000,-
Silahkan check di:
http://www.ponseljakarta.com/iklan/motorola/v8.htm
http://www.studiohp.com/price_list.php?var=MOTOROLA
Pelayanan After sales? Semua merk handphone kagak bagus. Mau bukti?

Dewi Widya Ningrum - detikinet

Motorola Concept Phone at the Symbian Smartphone Show
October 17, 2007 at 4:06 pm by Jay | In Mobile News
One of the more interesting things to be found at mobile phone shows is when a company turns up pushing ideas, and concepts. Sometimes these things come through, other times they are incorporated with other features and sometimes they just get left behind in the fast changing environment of progressive technology.
Yesterday at the Symbian Smartphone Show I had the opportunity to look over some concepts Motorola are planning for future handset releases. The phone you see in the photos is just a concept phone, it has no model number, and may well never be released as a product. The idea in bringing the handset to the expo was to showcase the media capabilities that Motorola may be introducing in future handsets.
The Motorola Concept phone demonstrated some very high power picture and video editing capabilities.
On most camera phones, there is a delay, sometimes of up to 5 seconds, as the camera loads and opens. The camera on the concept Motorola launched very quickly, and was ready to use straight away. When taking a picture the handset saved the picture, archived it to the designated folder and was ready to shoot, again very quickly. In a very non scientific test the concept phone proved to be much quicker than the Sony Ericsson K810i I had with me at the time.
The video capture was at 30fps. Once a video clip has been recorded, there are a wide range of options available on the handset itself to edit the clip. You can cut sections of the clip, join other clips together, use transitions as you fade from one clip to another; you can cut out pieces of audio, add a soundtrack, and on and on. The options were numerous, but the thing that made it great is the handset was so usable. Now, it is fair to say I have not always been Motorola’s biggest fan. However the concept I saw yesterday was very good. It is not often you find Motorola and usability linked together in a positive way but the concept phone was just usable. All the features for video editing were simply laid out in a logical manner, and navigation of the menu was via a solid feeling circular 5 way joypad.
Once you are happy with the editing, the Motorola phone offers one click uploads to popular online media services such as YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, etc.You can set the phone so all media is uploaded to one destination or split things up, so videos go to Youtube and pictures go to Flickr, for example. You can imagine for yourself the possibilities available. 21st birthday pictures immediately online to share with friends, wedding videos to share with family who can’t be with you, sporting events, social parties, and so on. Even news clips, in an era of instant media, can easily be filmed and uploaded for the world to see.
If the features on show in the concept phone make it onto forthcoming Motorola handsets, then they are going to have some phones worth shouting about. It will be interesting to see over the coming months what they have to offer.

Tests Show a Motorola Phone Being Powered by Hydrogen
The Canadian firm, Angstrom Power says that it has successfully completed a six month trial running a Motorola mobile phone on a hydrogen based fuel cell. The replacement fuel cell was clipped to the phone as a direct replacement for the existing battery - and importantly, did not increase the overall size of the mobile phone.
Angstrom has also demonstrated research results showing twice the talk-time of the equivalent battery-powered devices in side-by-side testing. The fuel cell can also be recharged in less than 10 minutes.
Stuart Robinson, Director of Handset Component Technologies at Strategy Analytics Ltd, commented, "Our research shows that insufficient battery run time ranks as one of the leading considerations in the adoption of handheld devices with rich multimedia functionality. Development of Lithium batteries is too slow to meet the growing energy demands of cellular handsets. Angstrom's achievement, the world's first successful integration of micro fuel cell technology into a standard mobile handset, demonstrates the potential of micro fuel cells to provide a better solution for demanding mobile energy applications."
Angstrom Power's Micro Hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen gas stored in a metal hydride and oxygen from the air to make electricity. The only by-product is water vapor and small amounts of heat. The key to Angstrom Power’s fuel cell technology is the ability to pack a large amount of surface area into a small volume using proprietary micro-structured topology.
Angstrom is currently collaborating with battery manufacturers, portable electronic device makers and mobile service providers towards the commercialization of its Micro Hydrogen technology. The addressable market for Angstrom's technology is estimated to exceed a billion units annually by 2010.

pengen mendebat postingan TS soal hp SE, cuman sudahlah...ga baik OOT..
well, pendapat gw ini totally subjektif.
just my 2 cents..
ini ujung2nya OOT juga..
ya uda biar ga oot,
The Motorola PVOT is a hand crank phone that offers one minute of usage after a sweat-inducing 25 cranks. Talk about working for your airtime! The hand crank charges the single AA rechargeable battery inside, and the PVOT comes with a 125 x 125 dot matrix LCD and an "Eraser Shield" keypad. It is still unknown whether this concept will make it into production, but should that happen, it will be a boon to developing third world countries in bridging the communications gap.

bingung nih sama ni hp..cara makenya gimana yah?tp bagus juga sih tambah inovasi, ngga berkutat mulu sama RAZR..btw pvot itu pivot yah?
