Tahun 1998, perkenalan Malique dan Joe Flizzow lewat internet membuahkan kesepakatan untuk membentuk duo hip hop yang kemudian bernama Too Phat. Setelah bertemu, keduanya lantas membuat demo lagu dan acap tampil di pentas-pentas hip hop underground di Malaysia.

Setahun kemudian, kepopuleran Too Phat di kalangan underground menarik perhatian Illegal, seorang produser dari Positive Tone, label rekaman di Malaysia yang mengkhususkan pada rekaman berbahasa Inggris. Apalagi setelah mendengar demo mereka yang lagu-lagunya sudah sempat mengudara di beberapa radio di Malaysia.

Di bawah label Positive Tone, Too Phat merilis debut bertajuk Whutthadilly?, 30 Desember 1999. Di luar dugaan, album ini ternyata disambut meriah oleh penikmat musik Malaysia. Mereka bahkan tercatat di tiga nominasi di ajang "Anugrah Industri Musik" (AIM), tahun 2001.

Februari 2001, Too Phat merilis album kedua, Plan B yang menghadirkan produser hip hop Malaysia, Illegal, G-Soul, Haze dan Damien, menyuguhkan beberapa lagu kolaborasi Too Phat dengan beberapa artis Malaysia macam Camelia, Sharifa Aini, V.E., DJ T-Bone dan The Teh Tarik Crew.

Plan B sendiri yang menjagokan nomor Anak Ayam (Freak To The Beat) dan Just A Friend berhasil meraih penghargaan Platinum di Malaysia dengan penjualan melebihi angka 45 ribu keping. Sekaligus membuahkan penghargaan "Best Engineered Album" dan "Best Local English Album" di ajang AIM 2002.
