Rano Raraku -The Birthplace of the Moai

http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/RanoRrku1.jpeg
Almost everyone has seen the iconic images of the Easter Island statues staring silently out from the hillsides. For years I thought these were the only Moai on the island. I knew nothing of the statues erected on ahu or the fallen moai at the other sites. Seeing these pictures many people have come to believe that all Moai faced the ocean while it is the exact opposite that is true. With the exception of Ahu Akivi all erected Moai face inland. It is believed they were positioned that way to watch over the villages. At Rano Raraku the statues face away from the crater.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/moai1.jpeg
The fact is these statues were not meant to have stayed in this place. The Moai that you see half buried on the sides of the volcanic cone of Rano Raraku were pieces waiting to be transported to ahu around the island. The Moai that you see sticking up out of the ground have bodies that extend down underground 20 - 40 feet, all the way to the waist. Centuries of erosion from the slopes above have covered all but the tops of these giants - the largest Moai ever constructed. One of the unfinished moai, completely carved but not removed from the crater wall, is a staggering 70 feet in length. Many doubt this statue could ever have been raised successfully. Giving their ingenuity and obsession, I believe they would have eventually. The slopes of Rano Raraku are filled with eye-less moai - several hundred circle the crater in various stages of construction.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/thinmoai.JPG
Many have a more detailed and finished look than the moai erected on the island's ahu. There are some that disagree that these statues were finished pieces waiting for transport and believe that they were never meant to be move from the slopes surrounding their birth place. Perhaps it was a "Moai Showroom" of sorts where local leaders could come and pick out their favorite design!
The Statue shown on the left is my personal favorite. It's thin deeply chiseled features make it unique among the Moai. At over 45 feet tall it must have been extremely difficult to carve and move.

Thor Heyerdahl's team was given one day in 1987 to excavate and measure the full length of the moai. Its regal head tapers into a long thin body with carved tattoo and loin cloth relief's on its surface. It has a distinctly phallic shape to it and some have proposed that all the moai were purposely designed around a phallus shaped form.

The interior of the caldera contains many finished and unfinished moai as well. Erosion has covered many nearly completely and it's possible more lay beneath the ground, covered by hundreds of years of erosion. The potmarked walls from which the moai where carved can clearly be seen in this photo taken of the interior of the Rano Raraku caldera just above the crater lake.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/2heads.jpeg
Statues located on the interior slopes of Rana Raraku. Centuries of erosion have buried many of the Moai around the rim of the caldera.

Finally the strangest Moai ever found on Easter Island. The odd "kneeling" statue. Found by archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl's team in 1955 on a part of the Rano Raraku quarry near no other statues it stands, hauntingly. It is a very realistic piece compared to the traditional moai and it is unclear whether this was a very early piece or a later development. Its location, away from the other carved moai is also unusual. One legend says that this is a representation of a famous moai carver, erected to watch over future generations of the craftsmen.

http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/RanoStOdd.jpeg
There is something about this statue that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I can't put my finger on what it is but as I stood there looking at it with the howling tradewinds blowing through my ears, I knew there was a story here that had not been told. It's as if the statue is trying to scream out, to tell us what happened. But it's mouth is solid basalt and winds block out any sound.

Ahu Tongariki
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/ei029.JPG
Ahu Tongariki, on the south coast of Easter was the site of one of the largest of the ahu. The large flat plain below Rano Raraku provided easy access to the quarry and as a result the largest of the moai where erected here.

However, in 1960, a massive tidal wave generated by an earthquake off the coast of Chile hit Ahu Tongariki and destroyed the platform and swept the massive moai hundreds of yards inland.

http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/ei084.JPG
Above is a rare picture of one of Ahu Tongariki's moai against the backdrop of its birthplace - the Rano Raraku volcano. The photo is rare because in 1992 a team from Japan brought in cranes and other heavy equipment. Their mission: restore Ahu Tongariki. Working under the direction of Chilean archaeologist, Claudio Cristino the task took five years. Now all 15 of the moai stand proudly once more at what is arguably Easter Island's most impressive site. I have not been back to Easter since the restoration so I don't have any photos of the completed project. The NOVA website has some nice images of it up (see the resources section) and there is a dramatic shot of it on a Japanese site
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~yf5f-wtnb/moai_idx/tongariki/moai6_04.jpg
While the new restoration is impressive there was a stark beauty to the site in its demolished state that has now been lost. While it is tempting to raise all the moai that have been toppled due to the war on the island or natural events, part of the history is altered by doing so. Due to the harsh weather conditions some statues are better protected in their fallen state.

Ahu Vinapu
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/walls1.jpeg
Ahu Vinapu is not as spectacular as some of the other sites on Easter Island. There are no erected moai, no giant craters to peer into, and it's views include the airport fuel tanks. But at Ahu Vinapu, to some, stands evidence that flies in the face of what modern archaeologists want us to believe about the people that built the ruins.

At Ahu Vinapu we see a style of stonework not found at any other Polynesian site. This is the only site on Easter where this level of workmanship is shown as well, however, other sites had existed but were torn down by the missionaries to build houses.

While this type of precise stone fitting is nonexistent in Pacific Island cultures, it is common among South American cultures that occurred before and during Easter's occupation. It is this striking similarity that has lead some, most notably, Thor Heyerdahl, to suggest that it is evidence that South Americans colonized, or at least were present on Easter Island, and influenced the culture
One other mystery is that Ahu Vinapu is considered to be a fairly early site. Generally you would assume that an earlier site would have less craftsmanship involved than a later site, yet, in this case we see the reverse.

Although all that remains visible at Vinapu now are the broken remains of an ahu, reports from as late as 1816 say moai where standing at the site. There are several buried around the ahu with only their faces visible.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/wall2.jpeg
Detail of Stone Work at Vinapu

http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/wall.JPG
Largely unrestored, there is an erie feeling at this place. The blood red scoria column, the half buried faced peering at you from the grass, and a small broken wall from what was obviously a massive structure, all combine to really strike home the failure of this unique culture.

Clearly, Ahu Vinapu was an important site. Captain Cook's logs tell of up to 20 moai erected in this area. The remains of red scordia monuments have also been found on the site including a rare column-like monument whose carvings and meaning have eroded forever.

Are these walls the proof of South American influence or just as one archeologist put it: "there are only so many ways to carve a rock."

Ahu Akivi
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/AkuAkivi1.jpeg
Built in 1460 this site was one of the later constructions built, probably at a time when the statue cult was beginning to unravel. Unlike other sites, Akivi is inland and has a commanding view of the western part of the island. Its 7 moai, all about 14 feet tall and approx. 12 metric tons each, are remarkably similar. When UCLA archeologist Jo Anne Van Tilburg documented all the statues on the island the Ahu Akivi statues were found to be the statistical average of all the moai.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/akivi1.jpeg
The statues were raised and the site restored in the 50's by famed archeologist William Mulloy. Studies suggest that the ahu itself was begun around 1442 and lasted until 1600. Van Tilburg has postulated that during that time 8 chiefs of this region could have ruled. It is thought that perhaps the statues where build by the 8th chief who was most likely a direct descendant of the others. As statue construction stopped about this time this 8th chief never got his due after building such an austere and beautiful monument. I found myself returning again and again to this site during my visit to Rapa Nui. After photographing it in every possible light I realized that night a full moon would be rising in the area.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/moon.JPG
I didn't know exactly where it would rise but I stayed at Akivi in the hopes I could get a shot of it alongside a moai. As I sat directly in front of the center of the line of moai the moon rose up and over the ahu perfectly aligned with the center. Little has been written about any relation between celestial events and the positioning of the ahu although it is suspected that in at least 12 sites there was some connection.

As I sat and watched the moonlight illuminate the moai I tried to imagine what would have been happening at this site 400 years ago.

Ahu Naunau
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/nau02.JPG
The legends of Easter Island say that Hotu Matua came first came ashore here at Anakena Beach and that this was the island's first settlement. Excavations of the site have confirmed that it had been occupied for a very long time. The current ahu is built upon the remains of several others and the same precise stone work is found in the buried ahu as that of Ahu Vinapu. Again, this is curious because one would expect the more advanced stonework work have been done during later periods of the island's development.

What is striking about the statues at Ahu Naunau are the red scoria headdress's (known as Pukao) that fit on the moai heads. These were carved from a different quarry than those of the moai that contained a large quantities of the red lava rock. Many of the moai on the island originally had pukao and they are found alongside the fallen statues in many sites. It is believe that they where installed by building a ramp of stones up the side of an erected moai and then rolled up where they could be placed on the top. Afterwards the ramp was disassembled.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/nau05.JPG
As for why the Rapa Nui began putting the pukao on selected moai remains a mystery. Heyerdahl, referring too the mysterious red headed race that was reported on the island concluded that they represented topknots of red hair. Other archeologists point to the tradition of placing a large stone on the image of a dead leader as a sign of death and mourning.
The statues at Ahu Naunau are also known for the detailed carvings on their backs. Along with traditional loin cloth reliefs are fishhook patterns that are found on none of the other statues.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/nau03.JPG
The detail work in the statues at Ahu Naunau is truly remarkable. Precisely chiseled facial features, the now familiar long ears and thin lips are all carved on the Ahu Naunau statues to a degree not seen at other sites. Although, not the biggest of the moai, they are clearly the most refined. A fitting tribute if this is, indeed, the site of Rapa Nui's first settlement.

It was at Anakena that one of the island's secrets was finally discovered. Archeologist long puzzled over the deep eye sockets of the moai that had been erected. Could it be that the moai had in fact had eyes?

In 1978, a student named Sonia Haoa found fragments of worked coral and a red disk made out of scoria, the same material used to make the pukao. When fitted together they made an unmistakable eye. She brought the fragments to archeologist Segio Rapu who discovered they fit precisely in the eye socket of a moai. So, the moai did have eyes, although, it is unclear if they were permanent fixtures of the statues or placed in them only on ceremonial occasions as is done now on the island with replicas of the eyes.

Tahai Complex
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/tahai3b.JPG
Ahu Vai Uri

On the island's western shore lay the ruins of a very unique ahu. It is unigue in that the statues erected on it are all very different from each other both in scale and shape. There is a the large figue in the center, with two figure of similar size on its left. Then to the right we have a smaller, squatter figure and the remains of an even smaller statue. Why is there variation of the moai at this ahu and not at the others
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/tahai5.JPG
Semi-Wild horses are common on Easter lsland

This site seems to clearly show an attempt to create some individualism in the statues while keeping the basic stylistic design. Whether this is depiction of a group of leaders of a clan as is generally assumed at other sites or represents an acutal family unit is a matter of debate. One could look at these figures and see a king with two sons on his left, and his wife and another child, perhaps a female on the left. Due to its incomplete condition the smaller statue will remain a mystery forever. Perhaps it was a leader that died young like King Tutankhaten of Egypt.

This place had a haunted feeling to it. I was drawn to it again and again and I produced some of my best photographs of the trip

Rano Kau
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/ei018.JPG
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/RanoKau1.jpeg
This was the final setting for Rapa Nui culture. It was here on the crater's rim that they built the village of Orongo. Up until the 1878 the islanders practiced ancient rights and tests of skill. Most famous was the ritual whereby Rapa Nui would scale down the sheer cliffs, swim through shark infested water and then fast on the tiny islets off shore waiting for the first sooty tern to lay her eggs. The winner of the competition had special rights and privileges granted them for the duration of the following year.
http://mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/images/Islets1.jpeg
The rocks at Orongo are carved with hundreds of petroglyphs of birdman. The sea birds, especially the frigate bird, became an important symbol for the Rapa Nui. As frigates nested in trees, they became more and more scarce due to the deforestation on the island. Changing weather conditions as well as over hunting also contributed to decrease in the number of other bird species. Although the birdman cult seems to have overtaken the statue building cult there are ties between the two. In on of the houses at Orongo was found an 8' high moai, complete with sacred loin cloth bas relief carved on it. But superimposed over the moai body are birdman and other symbols of the Orongo practitioners. So it appears that the two groups had some how come to terms with the differing beliefs that were present on the island.

I am often asked if I felt anything mystical while on Easter. Often, alone and with the ever-present tradewinda howling in my ears, I felt a deep sense of loss on the island. One feeling kept rising up in me again and again as I climbed among the unfinished moai on the barren walls of Rano Raraku. It was the feeling of failure. I believe the Rapa Nui knew they were special people and in the end they knew they had only themselves to blame.

Chichén Itzá
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/jungruins2.jpeg
Deep within the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala and extending into the limestone shelf of the Yucatan peninsula lie the mysterious temples and pyramids of the Maya. While Europe was still in the midst of the Dark Ages, these amazing people had mapped the heavens, evolved the only true writing system native to the Americas and were masters of mathematics. They invented the calendars we use today. Without metal tools, beasts of burden or even the wheel they were able to construct vast cities across a huge jungle landscape with an amazing degree of architectural perfection and variety. Their legacy in stone, which has survived in a spectacular fashion at places such as Palenque, Tikal, Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Copan and Uxmal, lives on as do the seven million descendants of the classic Maya civilization

The Maya are probably the best-known of the classical civilizations of Mesoamerica. Originating in the Yucatan around 2600 B.C., they rose to prominence around A.D. 250 in present-day southern Mexico, Guatemala, northern Belize and western Honduras. Building on the inherited inventions and ideas of earlier civilizations such as the Olmec, the Maya developed astronomy, calendrical systems and hieroglyphic writing. The Maya were noted as well for elaborate and highly decorated ceremonial architecture, including temple-pyramids, palaces and observatories, all built without metal tools. They were also skilled farmers, clearing large sections of tropical rain forest and, where groundwater was scarce, building sizable underground reservoirs for the storage of rainwater. The Maya were equally skilled as weavers and potters, and cleared routes through jungles and swamps to foster extensive trade networks with distant peoples.

Around 300 B.C., the Maya adopted a hierarchical system of government with rule by nobles and kings. This civilization developed into highly structured kingdoms during the Classic period, A.D. 200-900.

Their society consisted of many independent states, each with a rural farming community and large urban sites built around ceremonial centers. It started to decline around A.D. 900 when - for reasons which are still largely a mystery - the southern Maya abandoned their cities. When the northern Maya were integrated into the Toltec society by A.D. 1200, the Maya dynasty finally came to a close, although some peripheral centers continued to thrive until the Spanish Conquest in the early sixteenth century.

El Castillo
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images2/venus01.JPG
view towards the Great Pyramid, with the Platform of Venus in foreground

The massive Kukulcán pyramid called "El Castillo" (the castle) is roughly at the center of the site. Climbing it is quite a challenge and those who make it are rewarded with a spectacular view of the city and surrounding country side. A trip inside the pyramid is quite the opposite. The dark, unbearably humid corridors and chambers are too much for some people.

Early morning, before the onslaught of tourists, Chichén Itzá is a magical place. I had the opportunity to wander around the site for two hours before the gates were opened one day. Watching the massive pyramid take shape through the lifting fog is an experience I will not soon forget

http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/misty.JPG
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/ElCastllo1.jpeg
The construction of the Kukulcán Pyramid at Chichén Itzá was planned so that each Vernal Equinox the dying sun would cast a shadow of a serpent writhing down the steps of the pyramid. Every year over 40,000 people make the trek to the great pyramid to watch in awe as the snakes diamond backed body slowly appears.
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images2/my007.JPG
If you stand facing the foot of the temple and shout the echo comes back as a piercing shriek. Also, a person standing on the top step can speak in a normal voice and be heard by those at ground level for some distance. This quality is also shared by another Mayan pyramid at Tikal.

The Temple of the Warriors
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/ElCastllo4.jpeg

The Temple of the Warriors and its adjacent Temple of the Jaguar are the most awe inspiring ruins on the complex. A massive temple structure, surrounded by hundreds of columns is carved with reliefs. Still early morning, I wandered into the rows of columns with the sun just breaking through.

The columns continue on into the jungle, that part of the temple still has not been restored. It's an unsettling sight to see how easily the forest has reclaimed the area. What unanswered questions lay under the canopy of leaves and beneath the twisted roots.

The Observatory

http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images2/MY028.JPG
The intense interest of the Maya in the annual travels of the sun across the sky is evident in many structures at Chichén Itzá and other Mayan Sites. South of the Castillo is a strange round building known as the Carocal. Several of its windows point towards the equinox sunset and the southernmost and northernmost points on the horizon where Venus rises.

One of the nice things about Chichén Itzá is that you can go in almost all of the ruins. Many have the musty smell of the past, still present after over 1000 years. Dark portals await those that dare walk through. After walking into one pitch black room a startled meter long iguana charged through my shaking legs and out into the jungle. It felt like a seen from "Indiana Jones" It's nice that despite all the reconstruction and tourists, the place can still grab hold of you like that.

The Ball Court at Chichén Itzá

http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/mayaBalcourt1.jpeg
The Mayans were great sportsmen and build huge ballcourts to play their games. The Great Ballcourt of Chichén Itzá is 545 feet long and 225 feet wide overall. It has no vault, no discontinuity between the walls and is totally open to the sky.

Each end has a raised "temple" area. A whisper from end can be heard clearly at the other end 500 feet away and through the length and breath of the court. The sound waves are unaffected by wind direction or time of day/night. Archaeologists engaged in the reconstruction noted that the sound transmission became stronger and clearer as they proceeded. In 1931 Leopold Stokowski spent 4 days at the site to determine the acoustic principals that could be applied to an open-air concert theater he was designing. Stokowski failed to learn the secret. To this day it has not been explained.
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images2/my006.JPG
It is not hard to imagine a Mayan King sitting here presiding over the games. Legends say that the the winning captain would present his head to the losing capitan, who then decapitates him. While this may seem a strange reward, the Mayans believed this to be the ultimate honor. The winning captian getting a direct ticket to heaven instead of going through the 13 steps that the Mayan's believed they had to go through in order to reach heaven..

Cenoté
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/mayawell.jpeg
East of the major Chichén Itzá ruins is a dark underground world the Mayans called Cenoté. They are deep water filled sinkholes formed by water percolating through the soft limestone above. Since the porous soil held little water, these underground bodies were extremely important to the city. A visit to one is a spine chilling experience. Entry is through a vertical hole with narrow stair steps carved by the Mayan's themselves. The air is thick and musty. One misstep on the slimy ledges threatens to send you falling over 20 feet.
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/mayawell2.jpeg
Once your eyes get used to the light level a bizarre world takes shape. Stalagtites of blood red limestone seem to ooze from the dripping walls. Ahead is a strange green pool of glowing water.

As you approach the pool you notice roots of trees hanging before you. In their search for water they've penetrated the ceiling, dropping 50 feet to the pool below. It's like an eerie underground forest.

After you've crawled under some especially low hanging stalactites you're greeted by an incredible scene. A beautiful blue green pool of unknown depth stretches out before you. A massive stalagtite hangs down, just inches from touching the surface, and above a piercing beam of light streams in from the ceiling, illuminating the pool and the entire chamber.
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/my009.JPG
http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/mayan/images/mayan2.jpeg
There is a darker side to this and other Cenoté , however. In the wells around Chichén Itzá have been found scores of skeletons. Mayan petroglyphs depict human sacrifices at these sites. What lies under this Cenoté is not known, no one has ever been able to reach it's depths.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/b.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/c.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/d.jpg

http://cache.gmane.org//gmane/culture/religion/healer/mayapada/8952-005.bin

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/f.jpg

(Masya Allah!!!).

"If you can see Pendle then it's about to rain, if you can't then it's already started."
locals,

Pendle Hill

http://www.wholisticworldvision.org/pix/pendle%20hill.jpg

http://www.north-west-quakers.org.uk/1652/pendle4.jpg

1.George Fox 's Vision/Sighting

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/George_Fox.jpg

http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/hearttruth/images/logo_quaker.gif

2.Pendle Witch Trial / Lancashire Witch Trial

http://www.howlingdog.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/witch_hanging.jpg

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51098R0ACNL._SL500_AA240_.jpg

:D disinilah menariknya.

Fosil Makhluk Hidup Terbesar Di Dunia

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa42/moko_6670/iranfar.jpg

Real or Fake?

Harus ada kesadaran dari tiap user. Contoh: gambar2 hewan yg kepala digabung dgn bdn hewan lain.

:D disinilah menariknya.

ini sebagian gambar2 hasil rekayasa dan yang benar2 ada

KOLMANSKOP (Namibia): Buried in sand
Kolmanskop is a ghost town in southern Namibia, a few kilometres inland from the port of Lüderitz. In 1908, Luederitz was plunged into diamond fever and people rushed into the Namib desert hoping to make an easy fortune. Within two years, a town, complete with a casino, school, hospital and exclusive residential buildings, was established in the barren sandy desert. But shortly after the drop in diamond sales after the First World War, the beginning of the end started. During the 1950's the town was deserted and the dunes began to reclaim what was always theirs.

SAN ZHI (Taiwan): a futuristic resort
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_sanzhi1.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_sanzhi2.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_sanzhi2.jpg
in the North of Taiwan, this futuristic pod village was initially built as a luxury vacation retreat for the rich. However, after numerous fatal accidents during construction, production was halted. A combination of lack of money and lack of willingness meant that work was stopped permanently, and the alien like structures remain as if in remembrance of those lost. Indeed, rumors in the surrounding area suggest that the City is now haunted by the ghosts of those who died.
After this the whole thing received the cover-up treatment. And the Government, who commissioned the site in the first place was keen to distance itself from the bizarre happenings. Thanks to this, there are no named architects. The project may never be restarted thanks to the growing legend, and there would be no value in re-developing the area for other purpose. Maybe simply because destroying homes of lonely spirits is a bad thing to do. San Zhi can also be seen from an aeriel view here.

CRACO (Italy): a fascinating medieval town
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Craco1.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Craco2.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Craco3.jpg
Craco is located in the Region of Basilicata and the Province of Matera. About 25 miles inland from the Gulf of Taranto at the instep of the “boot” of Italy. This medieval town is typical of those in the area, built up with long undulating hills all around that allow for the farming of wheat and other crops. Craco can be dated back to 1060 when the land was in the ownership of Archbishop Arnaldo, Bishop of Tricarico. This long-standing relationshop with the Church had much influence over the inhabitants throughout the ages.

ORADOUR-SUR-GLANE (France): the horror of WWII
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_oradour.jpg
The small village of Oradour-sur-Glane, France, is the setting of unspeakable horror. During World War II, 642 residents were massacred by German soldiers as punishment for the French Resistance. The Germans had initially intended to target nearby Oradour-sur-Vayres and mistakenly invaded Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10th 1944. According to a survivor’s account, the men were herded into barns where they were shot in the legs so they would die more slowly. The women and children, who had been held in a church, all perished when their attempt to escape was met by machine-gun fire. The village was razed by the Germans afterward. Its ruins still stand today as a memorial to the dead and a reminder of the events that took place.

GUNKANJIMA (Japan): the forbidden island
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Gunkanjima1.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Gunkanjima2.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Gunkanjima3.jpg
This island is one among 505 uninhabited islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture of Japan about 15 kilometers from Nagasaki itself. It is also known as "Gunkan-jima" or Battleship Island thanks to its high sea walls. It began in 1890 when a company called Mitsubishi bought the island and began a project to retrieve coal from the bottom of the sea. This attracted much attention, and in 1916 they were forced to build Japan’s first large concrete building on the island. A block of apartments that would both accommodate the seas of workers and protect them from hurricanes.
In 1959, population had swelled, and boasted a density of 835 people per hectare for the whole island (1,391 per hectare for the residential district) - one of the highest population densities ever recorded worldwide. As petroleum replaced coal in Japan in the 1960’s, coal mines began shutting down all over the country, and Hashima’s mines were no exception. In 1974 Mitsubishi officially announced the closing of the mine, and today it is empty and bare, with travel currently prohibited. The island was the location for the 2003 film ‘Battle Royale II’ and inspired the final level of popular Asian videogame "Killer7".

KADYKCHAN (Russia): memories of the Soviet Union
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Kadykchan.jpg
Kadykchan was one of many small Russian cities that fell into ruin when the Soviet Union collapsed. Residents were forced to move to gain access to services like running water, schools and medical care. The state moved them out over a period of two weeks, and they were taken to other towns and provided with new housing. Once a tin mining town of 12,000 people, the city is now desolate. In their hurry to leave, residents left their belongings behind in their homes, so you can now find aging toys, books, clothing and other objects throughout the empty city.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY (China): A lawless city
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_kowloon1.jpg
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_kowloon2.jpg
The Kowloon Walled City was located just outside Hong Kong, China during British rule. A former watchpost to protect the area against pirates, it was occupied by Japan during World War II and subsequently taken over by squatters after Japan’s surrender. Neither Britain nor China wanted responsibility for it, so it became its own lawless city.

FAMAGUSTA (Cyprus): once a top tourist destination, now a ghost town
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_Famagusta.jpg
Varosha is a settlement in the unrecognised Republic of Northern Cyprus. Prior to the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, it was the modern tourist area of the city of Famagusta. For the last three decades, it has been left as a ghost town. In the 1970s, the city was the number one tourist destination in Cyprus. To cater to the increasing number of tourists, many new high-rise buildings and hotels were constructed.

When the Turkish Army gained control of the area during the war, they fenced it off and have since refused admittance to anyone except Turkish military and United Nations personnel. The Annan Plan had provided for the return of Varosha to Greek Cypriot control, but this never happened, as the plan was rejected by Greek Cypriot voters. As no repairs have been carried out for 34 years, all of the buildings are slowly falling apart. Nature is reclaiming the area, as metal corrodes, windows break, and plants work their roots into the walls and pavements. Sea turtles have been seen nesting on the deserted beaches.

By 2010, the Turkish Cypriot administration of the de-facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus plan to reopen Varosha to tourism and the city will be populated as one of the most influential cities in the north of the island.

AGDAM (Azerbaijan): once a 150,000 city of people, now lost
http://www.oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a170_agdam.jpg
The eerie city of Agdam, Azerbaijan was once a thriving city of 150,000 people. It was lost in 1993 during the Nagorno Karabakh war; though the city was never the setting of combat, it fell victim to vandalism while occupied by Armenians. The buildings are gutted and empty, with only the graffiti-covered mosque remaining intact. Agdam residents have moved to other areas of Azerbaijan, as well as into Iran.

A labyrinth filled with stone temples and pyramids in 14 caves—some underwater—have been uncovered on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, archaeologists announced last week.

Myth and Reality

Archaeologists excavating the temples and pyramids in the village of Tahtzibichen, in Mérida, the capital of Yucatán state, said the oldest item they found was a 1,900-year-old vessel. Other uncovered earthenware and sculptures dated to A.D. 750 to 850.

"There are stones, huge columns, and sculptures of priests in the caves," said de Anda, whose team has been working on the Yucatán Peninsula for six months.

"There are also human remains and ceramics," he said.

Researchers said the ancient legend—described in part in the sacred book Popul Vuh—tells of a tortuous journey through oozing blood, bats, and spiders, that souls had to make in order to reach Xibalba, the underworld.

"Caves are natural portals to other realms, which could have inspired the Mayan myth. They are related to darkness, to fright, and to monsters," de Anda said, adding that this does not contradict the theory that the myth inspired the temples.

William Saturno, a Maya expert at Boston University, believes the maze of temples was built after the story.

"I'm sure the myths came first, and the caves reaffirmed the broad time-and-space myths of the Mayans," he said.

Underworld Entrances

Saturno said the discovery of the temples underwater indicates the significant effort the Maya put into creating these portals.

In addition to plunging deep into the forest to reach the cave openings, Maya builders would have had to hold their breath and dive underwater to build some of the shrines and pyramids.

Other Maya underworld entrances have been discovered in jungles and aboveground caves in northern Guatemala Belize.

"They believed in a reality with many layers," Saturno said of the Maya. "The portal between life and where the dead go was important to them.

1. Wozoco Apartments (Amsterdam-Osdorp, Netherlands)

A zoning law and blueprint flub were the inspiration for this apartment complex. Dutch housing regulations require apartment construction to provide a certain amount of daylight to their tenants–but MVRDV architects forgot to plan for that. Their solution? To hang thirteen of the 100 units off the north facade of the block. The ingenious design saves ground floor space and allows enough sunlight to enter the east or west facade.

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_wozoco.jpg

2. Floating Castle (Ukraine)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_floating.jpg

Supported by a single cantilever --and quite discussed at Panoramio, this mysterious levitating farm house belongs in a sci-fi flick. It’s claimed to be an old bunker for the overload of mineral fertilizers but we’re sure there’s a better back story... alien architects probably had a hand in it.

3. Habitat 67 (Montreal, Canada)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_habitat.jpg

Apartments connect and stack like Lego blocks in Montreal's Habitat 67. Without a traditional vertical construction, the apartments have the open space that most urban residences lack, including a separate patio for each apartment.

4. Free Spirit Spheres (British Columbia, Canada)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_spheres.jpg

Free Spirit Spheres can be hung from the trees as shown, making a tree house. They can also be hung from any other solid objects or placed in cradles on the ground. There are four attachment points on the top of each sphere and another four anchor points on the bottom. Each of the attachment points is strong enough to carry the weight of the entire sphere and contents.

The spheres are made of two laminations of wood strips over laminated wood frames. The outside surface is then finished and covered with a clear fibreglass. The result is a beautiful and very tough skin. The skin is waterproof and strong enough to take the impacts that come with life in a dynamic environment such as the forest.

5. Cube House (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_cube.jpg

Living in a tilted house is much easier than it looks—just ask the people living in these the Kijk-Kubus homes. Architect Piet Blom tipped a conventional house forty-five degrees and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pole so that three sides face down and the other three face the sky. Each of the cube houses accommodates three floors: a living space including a kitchen, study and bathroom, the middle floor houses bedrooms and the top is the pyramid room that can act like an attic or viewing deck. These houses are quite expensive, but you can satisfy your curiosity by visiting the museum show house.

6. Gangster's House (Archangelsk, Russia)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_gangster.jpg

One-time Russian gangster Nikolai Sutyagin’s home is certainly unusual. The eccentric former convict’s seemingly accidental 15-year project begun in 1992 stands 13 floors, 144 feet high. He claims he was only intending to build a two-story house - larger than those of his neighbours to reflect his position as the city’s richest man.

7. Mushroom House (Cincinnati, Ohio)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_mushroom.jpg

So disparate in materials and shapes this hodgepodge house looks like its been welded and glued together. But this is no hobo-construction, it was designed by the professor of architecture and interior design at the University of Cincinnati, Terry Brown, and was recently on the market for an estimated $400K.

8. Upside-Down House (Syzmbark, Poland) keren neh...... :D

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_upsidedown.jpg

This upside down design seems totally nonsensical–but that is exactly the message the Polish philanthropist and designer, Daniel Czapiewski, was trying to send. The unstable and backward construction was built as a social commentary on Poland’s former Communist era. The monument is worth a trip be it for a lesson in history or balance.

9. Pod House (New Rochelle, New York)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_pod.jpg

We assumed this oddball home was UFO-inspired, but it turns out the weed Queen Anne’s lace is where it got it's roots. Its thin stems support pods with interconnecting walkways.

10. Heliotrope Rotating House (Freiburg, Germany)

http://oddee.com/_media/imgs/articles/a241_helio.jpg

Green to the extreme, Architect Rolf Disch built a solar powered home that rotates towards the warm sun in the winter and rotates back toward its well-insulated rear in the summer. A house that spins in circles doesn’t sound too stable to us, but for the environment it is worth the risk.

Socotra Island: you have to see it to believe it

his island simply blows away any notion about what is considered "normal" for a landscape on Earth.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA7Mfgd_QI/AAAAAAAAc-0/lmZ8RRKpw88/s720/3656tertwettry.jpg

magine waking up on the Socotra Island and taking a good look around you (let's say your buddies pulled a prank on you and delivered you there, and lets also assume that you don't have any hangover from abuse of any substances). After a yelp of disbelief, you'd be inclined to think you were transported to another planet - or traveled to another era of Earth's history.

The second would be closer to the truth for this island, which is part of a group of 4 islands, has been geographically isolated from mainland Africa for the last 6 or 7 million years. Like the Galapagos Islands, this island is teeming with 700 extremely rare species of flora and fauna, a full 1/3 of which are endemic, i.e. found nowhere else on Earth. (catet...... :D :D )

http://lh4.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA7M1qQGxI/AAAAAAAAc_A/20BavK5VS-k/s800/35635tyrdgttrhgf.jpg

http://lh3.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA7NTDFjRI/AAAAAAAAc_Y/zVPQqnKl3Io/s720/356eyrgdfhgfhjyu.jpg

The climate is harsh, hot and dry, and yet - the most amazing plant life thrives there. Situated in the Indian Ocean 250 km from Somalia and 340 km from Yemen, the wide sandy beaches rise to limestone plateaus full of caves (some 7 kilometers in length) and mountains up to 1525 meters high.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/abramsv/SL7kOrxYN5I/AAAAAAAAcwY/A1rGb7nPc98/s720/458656486_7c5a02f4c7_o.jpg

The name Socotra is derived from a Sanscrit name, meaning "The Island of Bliss"... Is it the beaches? The isolation and quiet? or the strange and crazy botanical allure?

Alien-looking plants: H. P. Lovecraft's secret inspiration?

Was the famous Chtulhu myths creator aware of these forbidding mountains with their hauntingly weird flora (think of plant mutations from his "The Color out of Space") ? We almost tempted to call Socotra the other "Mountains of Madness" - the trees and plants of this island were preserved thru the long geological isolation, some varieties being 20 million years old...

We begin with the dracena cinnibaris or Dragon's Blood Tree, the source of valuable resin for varnishes, dyes, and "cure-all" medicine; also (predictably) used in medieval ritual magic and alchemy

http://lh6.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA9E6xm2GI/AAAAAAAAdA8/gf7ZXMc5rGg/s720/345654ythjg.jpg

The branches spread out into the sky and from below appear to hover over the landscape like so many flying saucers... and from above they have a distinct mushroom look:

There is also the Desert Rose (adenium obesium) which looks like nothing so much as a blooming elephant leg

http://lh6.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA-Mm_XSpI/AAAAAAAAdBk/cCIXLBiGZ-w/s720/35654ytfhg.jpg

Dorstenia gigas - apparently does not require any soil and sinks roots straight into the bare rock:

http://lh5.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA7PtTWtrI/AAAAAAAAdAg/xRu2oa-yLwM/s720/345654ytrhfhyj.jpg

http://lh6.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMA7KVdEFVI/AAAAAAAAc-E/yjTNvwvFMM0/s800/345654ygdf.jpg

It also has a distinct personality and likes to smile for the camera

http://lh4.ggpht.com/abramsv/SMBAok1tqkI/AAAAAAAAdCY/xPAacgn6F1I/s800/preview.jpg

Somewhat similar to the weird Dorstenia gigas, is this "bucha" vegetable, found as far north as Croatia. I hope it's not pregnant with anything malignant inside this sack. John Wyndham (with his "The Day of the Triffids") would've loved it

http://lh6.ggpht.com/abramsv/SLz7LMg5oeI/AAAAAAAAcmo/uzIxKMnWYqs/s720/xxxxxx.jpg

Also found in Socotra's landscape is the ever-strange and extremely rare Cucumber Tree (dendrosicyos socotranum) - and yes, it's related to what's sitting in a pickle jar in your fridge

Keanehan Setelah Penguburan Jasad Mak Erot

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/ATT00024.jpg
Mak Erot

Seperti kita tau, Mak Erot akhirnya meninggal.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/ATT00027.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/ATT00030.jpg

Girls and Corpses? "Well, if you're like me --explains the author, writer Robert Steven "Corpsy" Rhine-- you like two things: beautiful girls and rotting corpses. So, I thought, why not bring these two great tastes together in one magazine?"

Probably the world's most bizarre magazine in history, Girls and Corpses (http://www.girlsandcorpses.com/) is sort of like Maxim Magazine meets Dawn Of The Dead. There are pictures in each issue of beautiful, scantily clad young beauties posing with hideous, decaying, festering corpses. As they would put it, "so many corpses... so little time" :D

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a248_donkey.jpg

Miniature donkeys? Miniature Donkey Talk (http://www.qis.net/%7Eminidonk/mdt.htm) is a magazine dedicated to "ALL SIZED" donkeys. Published for 18 years, the mag actually claims to be "AT LEAST 4 times greater distribution than ANY miniature donkey publication!!!" Competition must be tough.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a248_drunk.jpg

Standing up for your right to get falling down drunk since 1996, Modern Drunkard (http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/) will improve your booze knowledge every month or so, or as they put it: updated whenever.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a248_omfg.jpg

WTF?! behold the OMFG magazine. Not really a bizarre magazine in itself, except for the name of course. The Official Meeting Facilities Guide (OMFG) is a trade publication.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a248_sheep.jpg

Ever wanted to read all there is to know about Sheeps? Yeah, me neither! Sheep! Mag (http://www.sheepmagazine.com/) is published bi-monthly in north-central Wisconsin; each issue contains boring articles about all kinds of sheeps. Bahhh!

Oleh2 dari Olimpiade Beijing 2008

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/olympics-2008.jpg

There has been a lot of crazy stuff going on in China in anticipation for the 2008 Olympics. None quite so strange as this story.
Nearly 3,500 children, since the year 2000, have been named after the 2008 Olympics!
3,500 were named “Aoyun”, meaning Olympics, in 2000 when the bid first came up to have the Olympics in China.

Additionally, more than 4,000 people have been named after the “Five Friendlies.” The Five Friendlies are 5 different animated characters that play in Chinese Olympics commercials.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/five-friendlies.jpg

The names are Bei Bei (880 people), Jing Jing (1,240), Huan Huan (1,063), Ying Ying (624) and Ni Ni (642). When put together, the phrase translates to “Beijing welcomes you!”

-------------------
In Mudanjiang City, China, street lights are coming to life in anticipation of the 2008 Olympics. Specially designed street lamps in the resembling athletes playing sports have started to appear throughout Mudanjiang City.

China has been buzzing with anticipation for the 2008 Olympics this summer.

Wei, a 60 year-old Chinese acupuncturist from Guangxi province, showed his patriotism for the upcoming Olympics by piercing his head, face, chest, and arms with 2008 decorative needles in five different colors.

Gadis India Berkeringat Darah

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2008/10/09/162642p.jpghttp://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2008/10/09/162823p.jpg

LUCKNOW, KAMIS — Wajarnya tubuh mengeluarkan darah jika terluka. Namun, kondisi yang dialami Twinkle Dwivedi, remaja berusia 13 tahun asal India, luar biasa aneh. Tanpa tergores sedikit pun, tubuhnya mengeluarkan darah.

“Saya putus asa,” kata Nandani, ibu Twinkle.

Dokter berpendapat, Twinkle terkena bisul biasa.

Dulu Twinkle mengaku sering menangisi kondisinya, ketika kulitnya mulai mengeluarkan darah. “Tapi sekarang saya hanya diam saja,” katanya.

kalo gq slh RC prnh ngasi tmbhn ttg olmec head d page 147 (http://forum.wgaul.com/showthread.php?t=52669&page=147)..

Tambahan ttg The Olmec Head

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/olmecc3.jpg

The Olmec are thought to have been the first "civilized"
people of South America, dated to around 1400 B.C. One of
the mysteries they left us are 16 giant carved heads wearing
helmets. All are carved from a single piece of granite and are
as tall as 6'5" ( 2.5 m) and weigh more than 20 tonnes. Many
more have been found scattered across the continent, half
done and left as is. The faces are clearly African in their
features. Yet historians tell us that Africans didn't come to the
Americas until the time of Columbus. Stranger still are gods
mentioned in Mexican legends which speak of tall white men
with beards - the god Quetzalcoatl was one in his human form,
said to be tall, white with blonde hair and beard. Numerous
'white' people's likenesses have been unearthed in some of
the oldest sites in Mexico , sometimes right beside the African
heads. Some of the sites date back to 1000 B.C.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/olmecc2.jpg

In 1996 and 1997 discovery of Caucasian bones more than
9000 years old were found in several western U.S. states and
as far east as Minnesota. A partially mummified Caucasoid
man was unearthed in Kenniwick, Washington and dated to
9300 A.D. This adds to the 'new facts' that the peopling of the
Americas isn't what we once thought.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/olmecc1.jpg

mngkin tmbhn gw bza mmbntu...khususny mslh lokasi yg lbh detil..:)

The Olmec civilization was centered in towns in Veracruz and Tabasco and thrived from around 1200 b.c. to around 500 b.c. Aspects of Olmec life have been found throughout Southern Mexico. Called, the "cultural mother" of Mexican civilization, the Olmecs apparently had connections with Africans, and quite possibly with Asians, the Chinese of those times being Ocean travellers. The African ties, reflected in the giant stone heads, were a natural development of strong Atlantic Ocean currents that swept from West Africa into the Caribbean Sea.

Andrew Ure: Tukang jagal dari Scotlandia

Andrew Ure, despite his many accomplishments as a Scottish doctor, was more famously known for four experiments conducted on Matthew Clydesdale on November 4, 1818. The first experiment involved an incision in the nape of the neck. Part of the vertebra was removed. An incision was then made in the left hip. Then a cut was made in the heel. Two rods connected to a battery were placed in the neck and hip, which caused great, uncontrollable convulsions. The 2nd rod was then placed into the heel, whereby the left leg kicked with such force, that it nearly knocked over an assistant. The 2nd experiment made the diaphragm of Forster's chest rise and lower, as if he were breathing again.

Ure had reported that had Forster's blood not been drained, or his neck broken from the hanging, he was sure he could bring him back to life. The 3rd experiment showed the extraordinary facial expressions exhibited when Ure made an incision in Forster's forehead. The rod was inserted, and Forster's face began to show emotions of anger, horror, despair, anguish, and hideous, contorted smiles. The expressions scared viewers so badly, that one doctor who was known to have a strong stomach, passed out on the spot. The final experiment had people believing that Forster was indeed alive. A cut was made into the forefinger. Once the rod was inserted, Forster began to raise his hand and point to people in the audience. Needless to say, many were horrified.

Kevin Warwick: Manusia Cyborg Pertama di dunia

Kevin Warwick is a British scientist and professor of cybernetics with such a fascination with for robots, that he's endeavoring to be the first man ever to become a cyborg.

On 1998, a simple RFID transmitter was implanted beneath Warwick's skin, and used to control doors, lights, heaters, and other computer-controlled devices based on his proximity. The main purpose of this experiment was said to be to test the limits of what the body would accept, and how easy it would be to receive a meaningful signal from the chip.

On 2002, a more complex neural interface was implanted on his nervous system, getting access to his nervous signals. The experiment proved so successful, that the signal produced was detailed enough for a robot arm to mimic the actions of Warwick's own arm.

Later, a highly publicised extension to the experiment, in which a simpler array was implanted into Warwick's wife—with the aim of creating a form of telepathy or empathy using the Internet to communicate the signal from afar—was also successful, resulting in the first purely electronic communication experiment between the nervous systems of two humans. His experiments are still on.

Vladimir Demikhov: The Two headed dog Surgeon

On 1954, soviet surgeon Vladimir Demikhov, revealed his masterpiece to the world: a two-headed dog. The head of a puppy had been grafted onto the neck of an adult German shepherd. The second head would lap at milk, even though it did not need nourishment — and though the milk then dribbled down the neck from its disconnected oesophagus. Although both animals soon died because of tissue rejection, that did not stop Demikhov from creating 19 more over the next 15 years. See a video of the surgery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj2SKJFQpI8).

Sergei Bruyukhonenko: The Dog Decapitator

Way before Vladimir Demikhov, Bruyukhonenko's mad experiments on dogs led to the development of open-heart procedures. He developed a crude machine called the autojektor (a heart and lung machine). By using this primitive machine, Bryukhonenko kept the heads of severed dogs alive. In 1928, he displayed one of the heads in front of an audience. To prove it was real, he banged a hammer on the table. The head flinched. When a light was shone in its eyes, the eyes blinked. And when it was fed a piece of cheese, the remnants promptly popped out of the esophageal tube, much to the displeasure of disgusted viewers

Johann Conrad Dippel: The Original Frankenstein

Johann Conrad Dippel was such a mad scientist that he was actually born in castle Frankenstein in 1673, a place near near Darmstadt, Germany. He is said to be the model for Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein", though that idea remains controversial.

After studying theology, philosophy and alchemy, he created an animal oil made of bones, blood and various other animal products, known as Dippel's Oil which was supposed to be the equivalent to the alchemists' dream of the "elixir of life." It is said that some of his work on anatomy involved boiling various body parts in large vats to make some kind of mad man stew, and that he also tried his hand at moving the soul from one corpse to another, possibly with a funnel, a hose and a lot of lubricant.

Giovanni Aldini: Penyetrum Mayat

Aldini was the nephew of Luigi Galvani. His uncle essentially discovered the concept of galvanism, when experimenting with electrical currents on frog legs. Aldini took those experiments further. Aldini conducted his experiments on corpses.

In front of an audience, he conducted an experiment on a hung murderer, George Forster. He applied conducting rods to the man's rectum, whereby the dean man began to punch the air, and his legs began to kick and flinch. Rods applied to the face made it clench and quiver. The left eye popped open. Several people present feared the man had come back to life, and had he actually sprung forth, he would have to be re-executed. One individual was so horrified, that shortly upon leaving the spectacle, he reportedly died.

Stubbins Ffirth: The Yellow Fever vomit-drinking Doctor!

During the 1800s, a doctor training in Philadelphia, Stubbins Ffirth, formed the hypothesis that yellow fever was not an infectious disease, and proceeded to test it on himself. He first poured infected vomit into open wounds, then drank the vomit. He did not fall ill, but not because yellow fever is not infectious: it was later discovered that it must be injected directly into the bloodstream, typically through the bite of a mosquito.

Shiro Ishii: Dr. Pure Evil

Ishii was a microbiologist and the lieutenant general of Unit 731, a biological warfare unit of the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
Some of the numerous atrocities committed by Ishii and others under his command in Unit 731 include: vivisection of living people (including pregnant women who were impregnated by the doctors), prisoners had limbs amputated and reattached to other parts of their body, some prisoners had parts of their bodies frozen and thawed to study the resulting untreated gangrene. Humans were also used as living test cases for grenades and flame throwers. Prisoners were injected with inoculations of disease, disguised as vaccinations, to study their effects. To study the effects of untreated venereal diseases, male and female prisoners were deliberately infected with syphilis and gonorrhea via rape, then studied. Having been granted immunity by the American Occupation Authorities at the end of the war, Ishii never spent any time in jail for his crimes and died at the age of 67 of throat cancer.

John Lilly: the Sensory Deprivation tank creator

To find out what would happen if the brain was cut off from all external stimuli, scientist John Lilly built the first sensory deprivation tank in 1954. Floating in warm water for hours in complete darkness and silence, Lilly began to experience vivid fantasies. "These are too personal to relate publicly," he reported later. The hallucinations of his test subjects were similarly difficult to categorize scientifically. This was one reason why his research did not take off.

Lilly later gave up scientific research and founded the firm Samadhi Tanks, which manufactured tanks for domestic use. On 1980 Lilly's work was the model for the film "Altered States". Having became something of a New Age guru, he died in 2001

The Man Who Doesn't Feel Cold

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_cold.jpg

Dutchman Wim Hof (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4393377&page=1), also known as the Iceman, is the man that swam under ice, and stood in bins filled with ice. He climbed the Mt. Blanc in shorts in the icy cold, harvested world records and always stands for new challenges.
Scientists can't really explain it, but the 48-year-old Dutchman is able to withstand, and even thrive, in temperatures that could be fatal to the average person.

The Man Who Can't Get Fat

Mr Perry (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1584565/The-man-who-can%27t-get-fat.html), 59, can eat whatever he likes - including unlimited pies, burgers and desserts - and never get fat. He cannot put on weight because of a condition called lipodystrophy that makes his body rapidly burn fat.

He used to be a chubby child, but at age 12 the fat dropped off "almost over night". He initially tried to eat more to gain weight, but it had no effect. Mr Perry, of Ilford in Essex, endured a decade of tests before the illness was diagnosed. It finally emerged that his body produces six times the normal level of insulin. Doctors have admitted that the condition would be a "slimmer's dream".

The Woman Who Can’t Forget

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_forget.jpg

That's the story of AJ (http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/atoz/article_1043889.php), an extraordinary 40-year-old married woman who remembers everything.

McGaugh and fellow UCI researchers Larry Cahill and Elizabeth Parker have been studying the extraordinary case of a person who has "nonstop, uncontrollable and automatic" memory of her personal history and countless public events. If you randomly pick a date from the past 25 years and ask her about it, she’ll usually provide elaborate, verifiable details about what happened to her that day and if there were any significant news events on topics that interested her. She usually also recalls what day of the week it was and what the weather was like.

The 40-year-old woman, who was given the code name AJ to protect her privacy, is so unusual that UCI coined a name for her condition in a recent issue of the journal Neurocase: hyperthymestic syndrome.

The Musician Who Can't Stop Hiccupping

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_hiccup.jpg

Chris Sands, 24, from Lincoln, hiccups as often as every two seconds - and sometimes even when he is asleep. He has tried a variety of cures, including hypnosis and yoga, but nothing has worked. Mr Sands thinks his problem stems from an acid reflux condition caused by a damaged valve in his stomach. "If the acid levels are severe enough they are going to do keyhole surgery and grab part of my stomach and wrap it around the valve to tighten it," he said.

Mr Sands, who is a backing singer in the group Ebullient, said the condition has hampered his career as he has only been able to perform four times. In the next couple of weeks (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/lincolnshire/7387224.stm) --as of the day of the report--, doctors at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre will put a tube into his stomach to monitor acid levels and decide if keyhole surgery is possible.

The Woman Who has 200 Orgasms every day!!!

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_org.jpg

UK's Sarah Carmen (http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/0311_200_orgasms.shtml), 24, is a 200-a-day orgasm girl who gets good, good, GOOD vibrations from almost anything. She suffers from Permanent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS), which increases blood flow to the sex organs. "Sometimes I have so much sex to try to calm myself down I get bored of it. And men I sleep with don't seem to make as much effort because I climax so easily."

She believes her condition was brought on by the pills. "Within a few weeks I just began to get more and more aroused more and more of the time and I just kept having endless orgasms. It started off in bed where sex sessions would last for hours and my boyfriend would be stunned at how many times I would orgasm. Then it would happen after sex. I'd be thinking about what we'd done in bed and I'd start feeling a bit flushed, then I'd become aroused and climax. In six months I was having 150 orgasms a day—and it has been as many as 200."

She and her boyfriend split— and new partners struggle to keep up with her sex demands. "Often, I'll want to wear myself out by having as many orgasms as I can so they stop and I can get some peace," she said.

The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep: stayed awake 24 hours a day for years

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_sleep.jpg

Rhett Lamb (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=4828035) is often cranky like any other 3-year-old toddler, but there’s one thing that makes him completely different: he has a rare medical condition in which he can’t sleep a wink.

Rhett is awake nearly 24 hours a day, and his condition has baffled his parents and doctors for years. They took clock shifts watching his every sleep-deprived mood to determine what ailed the young boy.

After a number of conflicting opinions, Shannon and David Lamb finally learned what was wrong with their child: Doctors diagnosed Rhett with an extremely rare condition called chiari malformation.

"The brain literally is squeezed into the spinal column. What happens is you get compression, squeezing, strangulating of the brain stem, which has all the vital functions that control sleep, speech, our cranial nerves, our circulatory system, even our breathing system," Savard said.

The Woman Who is Allergic to Modern Technology

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a245_tech.jpg

For most people talking on a mobile phone, cooking dinner in the microwave or driving in a car is simply part of modern living in 21st century Britain. But completing any such tasks is impossible for Debbie Bird (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=443717&in_page_id=1770) - because she is allergic to Cell Phones and Microwaves.

The 39-year-old is so sensitive to the electromagnetic field (emf) or 'smog' created by computers, mobile phones, microwave ovens and even some cars, that she develops a painful skin rash and her eyelids swell to three times their size if she goes near them. As a consequence, Mrs Bird, a health spa manager, has transformed her home into an EMF-free zone to try and stay healthy. 'I can no longer do things that I used to take for granted,' Mrs Bird said. "My day-to-day life has been seriously affected by EMF".

Ashleigh, from Melbourne, Australia, is allergic to water of any temperature, a condition she's lived with since she was 14. She suffers from an extremely rare skin disorder called Aquagenic Urticaria - so unusual that only a handful of cases are documented worldwide.

The Girl That Collapses Every Time She Laughs

Kay Underwood (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2500187/Student-collapses-every-time-she-laughs.html), 20, has cataplexy, which means that almost any sort of strong emotion triggers a dramatic weakening of her muscles. Exhilaration, anger, fear, surprise, awe and even embarrassment can also cause sufferers to suddenly collapse on the spot.

Kay, of Barrow-upon-Soar, Leicestershire (UK), who was diagnosed with the condition five years ago, once collapsed more than 40 times in a single day. She said: "People find it very odd when it happens, and it isn't always easy to cope with strangers' reactions. "

Like most cataplexy sufferers, Ms Underwood is also battling narcolepsy - a condition that makes her drop off to sleep without warning. Narcolepsy affects around 30,000 people in the UK and about 70 per cent of them also have cataplexy.

Trunyan - Bali
A Mysterious Tomb Village

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/trunyan.jpg

The village of Trunyan is closely clamped between the lake and the outer rim of the crater Batur, an almighty Kintamani volcano. It is a Bali Aga village, inhabited by descendants of the original Balinese, people who predate the arrival of Hindu Majapahit kingdom in the 16th century. It is famous for Pura Pancering Jagat temple, but unfortunately visitors are not allowed inside. There is also a traditional couple Bali Aga-style housing, and a large Banyan Tree, which is said to be over 1100 years. In sub-Kuban village near Trunyan is a mysterious cemetery that is separated by the lake and accessible only by boat - there is no path along steep walls of the crater rim.

komentar: kok ada tengkorak warna pinky ;D

Unlike the Balinese people, the people of Trunyan not cremate or bury their dead, but put in bamboo cages to decompose, but strangely there was no stench. A macabre collection of skulls and bones found on the stone platform and surrounding areas.

The bodies do not produce bad odors because of the fragrant scents of a large tree Taru Menyan increasingly close. Taru means “tree” and Menyan means “pleasant smell.” The name of Terunyan was also drawn from these two words.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/trunyan-bamboo.jpg
bamboo cages

The Trunyan women are banned from visiting the cemetery where a corpse is ensured. This follows the deeply rooted belief that if a woman comes to the cemetery while a corpse is underway, there will be a disaster in the village, such as a landslide or volcanic eruption. These events have been frequent in the village of history, but if women have something to do with it is a matter of opinion.

Painted Skulls of Hallstat

A popular sight in Hallstatt is the Gothic Roman Catholic Parish Church a few flights of stairs up from the Marktplatz. In addition to the Gothic building, some fine altars, and late Gothic frescoes, the place is popular for its skulls. A little graveyard is adjacent to the church but it is unremarkable. The real attraction is the Bone House in the Michaelskapelle (St Michael Chapel). In Austria, graves are sold on a fixed term basis – usually 25 years – and when the time is up, someone must pay to renew the lease or the lot is resold.

Due to the lack of space in the local graveyard, bodies here were traditionally exhumed after a decade or so. The remaining bones were placed in this chapel with the skulls cleaned and provided with the person’s name, date of death and some other decorations. Painting flowers and other decorations started in 1720. Since the mid-20th century, skulls are only cleaned and placed here if a local inhabitant requested it in writing in his/her will. The youngest skull is of a woman who died in 1983 – a golden tooth survived too – making her skull easy enough to find.

The different decorations painted on the skulls have special meanings. Laurel leaves indicate victory, ivy leaves indicate life, oak leaves fame, and roses love. The latter mostly red and pink flowers are not restricted to female skulls either.

In the amazing Chauchilla Cemetery, bodies from the ancient Nasca people were preserved by natural mummification in the arid climate. Through their habit of burying their people, this Culture left to us mummies, ceramics, colorful textiles, skull and devices, practically untouched. Chauchilla is about 30 km from Nasca city and it impresses by the quantity of mummies still available for visiting.

People With Bizzare Talent

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/a260_Psychokinesis.jpg
Miroslaw Magola: Moves objects with his Mind

"Remember, there is no spoon". Just like that kid from "The Matrix" movie, Miroslaw Magola (http://www.magneticman.org/) --The "Magnetic Man"-- defies laws of gravity with an extraordinary ability — applying the power of psycho kinesis he can raise anything from metal pans to marble statues, transport them through the air to affix to his body, then creates a force to keep them there — simply using mind control.

An avid enthusiast of the phenomenon of psychic energy, Miroslaw has developed his skill to manipulate lifeless objects in mid-air to obey his will, even forcing them spin around or shake. His mental powers are so keen that he can jump around while an object is stuck to his head without losing his mental grasp of the item. Miroslaw explains how he employs psycho kinetics to perform these uncanny feats, “It works because I load myself with energy (I connect myself to it) and at the same time I wish for the object to raise.”

Manjit Singh: Pulls a Jet with his Ears

57 year-old Manjit Singh (http://www.manjitironman.com/home.htm), called the "Ironman", holds more than 30 world records including pulling a double decker bus with his hair, lifting 85 kg with his ears, and of course, pulling a Jet also with his ears! On April 2007, Ironman pulled the aircraft -weighting approximately 7.4 tonnes- 12ft along the apron at East Midlands Airport, UK.

Speaking after the record attempt, he said: "I don't feel too bad, I have a little bit of pain around the ears but I'm ok." The attempt raised money for his charity Manjit Fitness, which aims to get children living in his native Mahilpur, India involved in sport.

As Kung Fu (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=319) magazine puts it: "When a man can tow a truck with his genitals, that’s all anyone ever really remembers about him." Tu Jin-Sheng, a 50-year-old man from Taiwan, is a martial arts grandmaster of Iron Crotch, a branch of Qigong said to have 60,000 followers worldwide. On 2005, he attached his penis to a truck for a demonstration, and pulled it several yards across a car park in Fremont.

Ru Anting: Writes with his Tears

56 year-old Ru Anting (http://www.weirdasianews.com/2008/10/20/chinese-man-writes-calligraphy-tears/), Luoyang in China, has a very special talent: he can write calligraphy with water he shoots from his eyes. After sucking up some water with his nose, he then sprays it through his tear ducts, ending up on the paper.

Ru discovered his unusual talent as a child while swimming in the river. "Sometimes I would swallow water while swimming, and once I accidentally discovered the water I swallowed could be shot out through my eyes. My friends were all shocked to see it," he said.

But it wasn't until the 1990s, when Ru lost his job in a local fertilizer factory after more than 20 years, that he began to develop his unusual talent. After three years of intensive training, he found he could shoot water accurately up to 10ft from his eyes at will.

Magnetic Man

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/magnetman.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/magnetman2.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/red_conjurer/magnetman3.jpg

Mr Methane (http://www.mrmethane.com/), alias former train driver Paul Oldfield, claims to be the only performing professional flatulist in the world, or more precisely, a "professional farter". His 'talent' came to light when he accompanied his sister in yoga practice. There, he discovered - to his surprise and delight - that he was able to take in air through the rear, retain it, and then expel it as and when he chose. At first, it was nothing more than a party trick to entertain fellow railwaymen, but eventually Mr Methane found that by careful control, he could pick out a simple tune :D

Mexico: Giant Selenite Crystals!

In 2000, one of the most unusual and splendid caves was found in Mexico by miners. Located only a mile from an upthrust of magma, this cave is 112 degrees Farenheit and at 90-100% humidity, limiting greatly the amount of time explorers can spend in it. It is a spectacular cave, with gigantic crystal formations thought to be 600,000 years old. edan ga??!! :D

http://lh4.ggpht.com/abramsv/SQd_QqBG9BI/AAAAAAAAi9s/_mHJ9-qbOnU/s640/4356yerhfgjgh%2Cmbn%2Cbn.jpg

http://lh3.ggpht.com/abramsv/SQd_RA4nCjI/AAAAAAAAi94/bInsj_gIrhA/s640/456uetjgfjghb.jpg

http://lh3.ggpht.com/abramsv/SQd_RiLZJEI/AAAAAAAAi-E/c5SzX6rKlMo/s640/46utrfjghjmbhk%2Chjk.jpg

The crystals formed underwater; as water saturated with calcium sulfate heated in the cavern selenite molecules crystallized and grew, undisturbed, to giant proportions. The cave was drained (by unknowing miners) in the 1980's and stopped the process of growth. Who knows what we may find further on, in the heat and water?

Khosrov Caves in Armenia served as a shelter to ancient tribes - in a perfectly cinematic location:

Then again, there's a wildly original Stockholm subway station, seemingly built inside a natural (in reality - blasted) cave

semoga belum ada!!

nama2 terpanjang

Langsung to the point saja, inilah nama2 tempat terpanjang di dunia, silahkan hafalkan nama2 tersebut, hehehehe…..

1. Krung thep mahanakhon bovorn ratanakosin mahintharayutthaya mahadilok pop noparatratchathani burirom udomratchanivetmahasathan amornpiman avatarnsathit sakkathattiyavisnukarmprasit

2.Taumatawhakatangihangak oauauotamateaturipukaka pikimaungahoronukupokaiwhe nua kitanatahu

**halaah**

7. Lower North Branch Little Southwest Miramichi

Sebuah sungai pendek di New Brunswick, Canada
